JCB have come a long way since this original Major Loader Mk1 Excavator!
Built primarily for the construction industry, the Mk1 Excavator was JCB's first mainstream machine to combine the backhoe and the major loader together. A total of 550 machines were built between 1954 and 1957, of which it is believed only 7 were built with a front mounted compressor.
It is widely held that Joseph Cyril Bamford (Mr JCB) invented Europe's first backhoe loader with this machine. Over 50 years later, JCB continues to be the world's number one manufacturer of backhoe loaders (see JCB 3CX on Britains page)
The model features many working parts and is a bit of a monster! Fully extended it reaches nearly 60cm and with the stands in place it is 30cm wide. Boxed it weighs in just over 2kg (60x25x20cm) so if our international clients can email us, we will provide a quote for shipping (PO airmail small packets don't offer a service above 2kg!).

An early Tractor from the State-owned Valmet Factory in Finland. Valmet (like so many others) developed from a munitions background to making agricultural machinery (from early 1950's).
The Valmet 20 started life in 1955, with a 22hp kerosene engine.
The model is marked: Valmet 20 "Tourulan Tehdas".
From Valtion Metallitehtaat Tourulan Tehdas, which means State (public) Metalworks, Tourula Factory.
Valmet tractors joined forces with Volvo to produce tractors in 1973, then after joining Sisu (1990s), became known as Valtra.
Valmet today make Boxter and Caymen cars for Porsche!

In 1945, Joseph Cyril Bamford created the very first JCB product - a new screw tipping farm trailer. This trailer was made mainly from war surplus materials and was the only one ever made with wooden rather than steel side boards. Today, JCB is one of the world's largest manufacturers of earthmovng, agricultural and materials handling equipment.
The restored trailer sits proudly in the reception area of JCB's World Headquarters in Staffordshire, England. A reminder of humble beginnings.
